Basic Handgun Safety & Self Defense Course

     1. You Don't Have to Be a Victim! 

       The Gretna Gun Works, Inc Basic Handgun Safety and Self Defense Course as featured on local and national television is designed to accommodate both the novice and the person with moderate handgun knowledge. The thrust of the course is on the practical application of defensive shooting with the student actually firing 100 to 150 rounds of live .22 long rifle ammunition during the day-long course. All shooting is done on our 6 position, climate-controlled, 25 yard indoor range by fully qualified and well-experienced instructors. There is also a lecture portion that is conducted in our classroom. All shooting during the course is done with our weapons and ammunition. Time is provided at the end of the course for you to learn about and shoot your own personal weapon. The entire course takes about 10 hours. 

   2. The GGW Course Synopsis.

   The GGW BHSSDC is designed to furnish the student with a practical knowledge of the following:

• Basic Handgun Familiarization & Operation

• Cleaning & Safety Procedures 

• How to Recognize & Avoid Potentially Dangerous Situations

• Defensive Shooting Techniques

• Legal Aspects of Gun Ownership Possession and Use

  3. Other Information You Need to Know.

   The ten hour course starts at 9:00 A.M. on Sunday with attendees arriving and registering between 8:30 and 9:00.  Coffee and soft drinks are available throughout the day and a lunch break is taken around 1:00 P.M.  Even though there are many good places to eat nearby, we ask that students bring a lunch so that the maximum benefit can be obtained from informal questions and answer sessions as well as saving time. Since we have designed the course to be a challenge, we strongly encourage students to wear comfortable clothes and shoes!

 4. Pre-registration is a Requirement.

 Because we believe in hands-on personal instruction, our class size is always carefully structured for the proper student to instructor ratio.  Pre-registration is necessary to guarantee each student a place in the class he or she has chosen. The fee for the course is $150 (plus tax) which covers the use of a handgun and all the ammunition needed for the course. Hearing protection and safety glasses are also furnished.  A $50.00 non-refundable deposit must be included with each student's application form.  If you must reschedule your instruction notify us no later that the Thursday before your class is scheduled.  The deposit will be applied to the new course date.
